The Things I Carry

I had lunch today with two coworkers (both older men, if it makes any difference to the story) who mentioned being on diets before we placed our orders. One of them asked, subsequent to our discussion about working out, if I was working out. I snorted into my bacon-ed and sauced sandwich.  Mothering takes up most of my time, I said.  It's not like I like not working out.  It just hasn't happened. I may have mentioned this before. Several thousand times.

So (rough transition alert) I wonder if I might be somewhat motivated to stop compulsively eating candy (and sandwiches and fat and carbs and) if I adopt a technique runners sometimes use to mark their marathon mileage: give each mile - or pound - a name.  A cause.  I am carrying so much STUFF right now of which I just need to let go.  Maybe this is a metaphor I can make work for me.  What do I need to lose?

Sewing Project #3: Travel Toy Blanket

The finished product: for my impatient readers.

Long, long ago, Prudent Baby led me to this tutorial for a travel toy blanket.  At the time, the Fidg was still very much enamored of tags. Couldn't chew enough of them. Of course, I figured something with chew-specific tags would probably not count since they wouldn't be the real thing, but it seemed like a fun project, relatively easy, and with many opportunities to get my-level creative (ie: find lots of cute ribbon. I can handle that.)

That was in November.

But now, finally, I've made one! She may not want to chew the tags anymore, but something to which I can attach toys still seems like a good idea.  Check out my own step-by-step commentary after the jump.

My second sewing project was the "10-minute Onesie Dress" from Prudent Baby.

It was probably closer to a 45-minute Onesie Dress With A Two Hour Intermission During Construction, but I did at least finish it in a day.  More on the making and the "After" pictures after the jump.
